Duke of Wellington gets makeover as Glasgow backs Scotland Women's World Cup bid

The Duke of Wellington has been given a new look today - and all in support of Scotland's World Cup bid.

Shelley Kerr's Scotland Women's team are currently in France preparing to compete against the best sides from across the globe as they go for glory.

And Glasgow has today thrown its weight behind Shelley and the girls, by giving a makeover to one of our city's favourite sights.

Eagle-eyed commuters may today have spotted the iconic Duke of Wellington statue complete with pink jersey, blonde wig, as it proudly sports the saltire at Royal Exchange Square.

Glasgow Live reader Bethan passed by the great Duke earlier today, taking to social media to post the snap with the caption: "Wellington’s dressed up in his Scotland shirt ready for the women’s world cup  #WomensWorldCup"

Scotland kick off their World Cup campaign with a crunch clash against the Auld Enemy in Nice on Sunday.

Our team will also be aiming to beat fellow Group D hopefuls Japan - in Rennes - and Argentina - in Paris - to progress to the next phase of the competition - let's hope Scotland go all the way to the final in the French capital on July 7.
