Duke Johnson not present for the start of Browns offseason program

Running back Duke Johnson did not show up at Browns headquarters in Berea for the kickoff of the Browns offseason program on Monday.

Johnson joins teammate Emmanuel Ogbah on the no-show list. Like Ogbah, the veteran running back has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the offseason.

Johnson’s future with the team has been in question since the Browns signed Kareem Hunt, the NFL’s leading rusher as a rookie for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017. Hunt will be suspended for the first eight games in 2019, but the long-term implications cast doubt on Johnson’s future with the club.

All of this week’s Browns activities are technically voluntary; Johnson is not required to be there and the team cannot punish him for failing to show up. He has yet to say why he chose not to attend.
