DURHAM, N.C. _ It's not unlike college fans to take things too far.
At the end of October, Wisconsin fans thought it was OK to wear a Barack Obama mask with a noose around the neck. They weren't asked to leave but instead to remove the offensive parts of the costume, as seen in a Wisconsin-issued statement about the incident.
On Tuesday night in Durham, a fan took it too far.
Duke hosted Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Cameron Indoor Stadium, and a member of the Cameron Crazies student section held a handmade sign that read "The water tastes better in North Carolina." It came in the midst of the water contamination crisis in Flint, Mich. MSU star freshman Miles Bridges is from Flint.
A Duke spokesperson said the school's policy does not permit offensive or distasteful signs in Cameron and that the staff is working to figure out how the sign got into the building.
Tweets from reporters covering the Challenge game, which Duke won 78-69, indicated Cameron Crazies said the fan was tossed, but the Duke spokesperson did not confirm that.
Some fans on UNC Twitter pledged to donate a dollar for every point Bridges scored, using the hashtag GivingTuesday. He finished with 11 points.
