Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set off on two day visit to Scotland

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to tour Scotland as part of a two day trip north of the border.

William and Kate will visit a number of organisations which focus on mental health and affordable housing.

In Glasgow, the Royal couple will visit The Wheatley Group, an organisation which helps transform the lives of vulnerable people and those who are at risk of homelessness.

William and Kate, known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, will speak with service users who have benefitted from access to employment support to help mitigate the impact of poverty.

They will also visit a new-build property in the Kennishead area and hear about the importance of good-quality, secure housing.

Homelessness has been an important aspect of William's work.

They will then visit Glasgow University where they will discuss mental health with staff and students before hearing about pioneering work being done by researchers at the school of Psychology and Neuroscience.

Both William and Kate will then meet members of the public outside of the university.

Prince William is also scheduled to head to the capital to visit Hearts Football Club to hear about the 'Changing Room' programme, which uses football as a vehicle to help men aged 30 to 64 talk about their mental health.

The visit comes just a day after Prince of Wales opened Parliament and delivered the Queen's Speech for the first time in history.

The Monarch reluctantly pulled out on the advice of royal doctors due to her continued mobility problems.

It is the first time in nearly 60 years that the Queen, 96, has missed the occasion.

The engagements will form part of a UK-wide tour for the couple to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.
