Dujon Sterling seals Rangers transfer as ex Chelsea kid arrives to ramp up Michael Beale summer rebuild

Dujon Sterling has joined Michael Beale's big summer Rangers rebuild after agreeing a deal to move to Ibrox, following the arrival of Kieran Dowell.

Beale promised supporters more signing news and the club has now confirmed former Chelsea full back Sterling has joined the club. The 23-year-old is predominantly a right back and can challenge skipper James Tavernier for a place in the Rangers XI, however, he is versatile and can also play as a left back or in a three-man central defence. QPR were linked with him when Beale was in charge at Loftus Road last season.

Sterling came through the ranks at Stamford Bride but struggled to make the first team breakthrough at the Blues and has had loan spells at Coventry City, Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Stoke City. he has been capped through the England underage levels and was part of the Three Lions side that won the UEFA Under-19 European Championships in five years ago.

Rangers announced the signing and Sterling said: “I am really excited to come to such a big club, there's a lot of history and the supporters are so passionate, so I am thrilled. We were on the same wavelength, he believes in me and I believe in what he is trying to do as well so it was a no-brainer for me to come."

Beale added: “I am delighted to welcome Dujon to Rangers. He is an exciting young player who, I’m sure, will be a great addition to our squad.

“He is a very powerful and strong defender, who has fantastic attacking qualities. I look forward to working with him at Rangers.”
