Dujon Sterling in Rangers 'knew straight away' confession after Michael Beale transfer talks

Dujon Sterling admits he knew straight away Rangers was the club for him after Michael Beale's proposal during a meeting.

The Ibrox gaffer has handed the defender a four-year contract as part of a pre-contract agreement with the 23-year-old making the move from Chelsea. He spent last campaign at Stoke City in the English Championship and admits he loved his time at the club but the chance to play European football is a 'no-brainer'.

Sterling can't wait to get started at his new club and get a proper pre-season under his belt and know his team-mates before the campaign gets up and running. He wasn't expecting to make up his mind so soon but after taking with Beale he knew it was everything that he both needed and wanted for himself at this stage of his career.

He becomes the second summer recruit following Kieran Dowell's move from Norwich City. Like Sterling, he has also penned a pre-contract deal. Jack Butland could quickly follow with reports claiming a deal is edging closer after Tuesday night talks.

The latest recruit said: “The opportunity to play European football was a no-brainer, you can’t pass that up.

“I love Stoke, I would have gone back probably. But you get a chance to play European football so early in your career, you have to take it.

“This will be the first time in six years I know what I am doing. I can get a proper pre-season and get to know my team-mates before the season starts.

“I’m really excited to come to such a big club with a lot of history and such passionate supporters as well. I’m thrilled. Over the moon.

“I wasn’t really planning on making my mind up over my future this quick but the gaffer came in straight away before the season finished and what he proposed to me was everything I need and everything I want to do.

“We’re on the same wavelength, he believes in me and I believe in what he’s trying to do as well, so it was a no brainer for me to come. Obviously I knew I had a lot of clubs in for me because I was going into free agency.

"But I knew straight away, as soon as he gave me the proposal I left that meeting and said, ‘Yeah, I’m signing here’.

“It was just how much passion he has to win, how much he wants players to succeed and how much he believes in my ability.

“He wants all the players in his team to be on the same page and I think that’s important, especially if you want to be winning titles like this club really wants to do.”
