Chicago police will increase patrolling of DUI drivers Saturday in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

The “DUI Saturation Patrol” will begin patrolling 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, Chicago police said in a statement.

The patrols will concentrate in a pre-designated area in the 3rd district to monitor vehicles for impaired driving, police said. Officers will focus on speed, alcohol related and safety belt violations.

The “Breath Alcohol Testing Unit” may also be deployed to allow officers to expedite charging process and will allow offenders to be released with an individual recognizance bond, police said.

The last DUI patrol was Jan. 2, and resulted in no DUI arrests and a total of 101 citations, according to police.
