Dueling predictions for Cardinals vs. Saints in Week 8

The Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints are set to face each other in Week 8. Both are riding winning streaks, the Cardinals having won three straight and the Saints having won five in a row.

New Orleans gets Drew Brees back after a five-week absence. The Cardinals might not have running back David Johnson.

How will this game play out? The Saints are favored by nine at home.

Saints Wire managing editor John Sigler and I both give our predictions for the game. Both of us predict a Saints win. How do we see things playing out?

John Sigler, Saints Wire: Saints 31, Cardinals 24

I think the Cardinals have strung together some good performances, and there’s a lot to like with how their offense has been playing. But a lack of difference-makers on defense and some long-standing issues on offense (pass protection, Murray’s ability to navigate pressure) should make up for any problems the Saints experience early on. Especially if Drew Brees does make his return from thumb surgery this week. I like the Saints to win inside the Superdome.

Jess Root, Cards Wire: Saints 27, Cardinals 20

The Saints look too dominant on both sides of the ball to really believe the Cardinals will win. However, this will be a competitive game. Patrick Peterson will limit Michael Thomas and the Cardinals offense will move the ball. The Cardinals keep it interesting but the Saints win.
