Dueling ESPN mock drafts hit all defense for the Steelers

ESPN’s two-headed NFL draft monster of Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. did a dueling two-round mock draft this week. We decided to break it down for the Pittsburgh Steelers and share our thoughts with you.

In the first round, Kiper went with former Michigan linebacker Devin Bush. This would be the best-case scenario for the Steelers but seems unlikely a team won’t trade up to get Bush if he falls into the teens.

McShay went with another guy who many consider a better prospect than this draft slot in LSU cornerback Greedy Williams. If the Steelers are drafting a cornerback in the first round, this would be the ideal guy.

Moving to the second round, Kiper gets the cornerback he didn’t in the first with Julian Love. Love showed some legit NFL traits at Notre Dame and would be a solid value in the second.

Meanwhile, McShay opted for Old Dominion edge rusher Oshane Ximines. He’s got a great first step but I still wonder how he will do against NFL-caliber tackles in terms of his functional strength.

Either of these mock drafts would give the Steelers two guys to add to the rotation at their respective positions. I appreciate McShay addressing edge rusher ahead of inside linebacker. Neither analyst addressed wide receiver but with the Steelers’ history for finding guys later on, this could be a philosophy Pittsburgh sticks to and passes on the top wide receivers.
