'Duck lip' mum fears being mocked in street after botched filler treatment

A mum fears being mocked in the street as she claims a 'botched' lip filler treatment has left her with disfigured ‘duck lips'.

Kelly McVicker had tried ‘every lip plumping gloss there is’ in a bid to boost her pout and confidence but claimed none of them worked.

Desperate to achieve her dream look, Kelly decided to take the plunge and get fillers.

The full-time mum claims the £90 offer for 1.5ml of filler administered in her living room by a beautician resulted in a trip to A&E after her lips doubled in size.

Kelly claims she was left with blood ‘dripping down her face’ during the two-hour ordeal in March when her lips were repeatedly ‘punctured’ by the needle.

The mum-of-five was forced to hold a frozen gammon joint to her rapidly ballooning lips in a desperate bid to reduce the swelling but when that didn’t work she went to A&E to seek medical treatment.

After returning home from hospital Kelly claims her lips erupted in painful blisters and her top lip was left much bigger than her bottom for three weeks - leaving her looking ‘like a duck’ and forced to hide away at home for three weeks.

The 35-year-old has vowed never to get lip fillers done again and believes her lips are still disfigured from the procedure.

Now Kelly is speaking out in a bid to warn others of the dangers of getting lip fillers from anyone other than medically qualified professionals.

Kelly, from Methley, West Yorkshire, said: “My top lip was way bigger than my bottom, it looks like I’ve got a horrendous duck lip and I’m really conscious of it.

“I stayed indoors for three weeks and the few times I went out, on the school run,  I would put a scarf over my lips.

“I just felt like people were looking at me - especially my top lip that was double the size of my bottom one.

“I still can’t go out without thinking people are looking and laughing.”

The treatment was booked through through a beauty and aesthetics page on Facebook that has since been deleted.

The woman, who assured Kelly she was qualified when she booked it and was doing the offer for her portfolio, set up her equipment and began the painful procedure.

Kelly said: “I booked the filler as a confidence boost. I tried every lip plumping gloss there is but it just didn’t work.

“I didn’t expect her to cause that much trauma and blood during the treatment.

“It was painful but at first I could take it, as she did more and more it go to the stage my legs were jumping with the pain.

“She was at my house for a good couple of hours. I’d never had it done before so I just thought it was normal and that she knew what she was doing.”

Kelly claims that her lips started rapidly swelling during the treatment and was assured that ice would help combat it, but 24 hours later they continued to balloon.

The following day Kelly continued to message the beautician for advice who offered to drive her an hour down the motorway to a pal in Huddersfield who could dissolve the filler.

Clutching a frozen gammon joint to her lips as a makeshift ice pack Kelly arrived at the beautician’s workplace only to be told she needed to go to hospital.

Kelly said: “During the treatment the lady who did said that she needed some ice for my lips but I didn’t have any.

“I told her ‘I’ve only got a joint of meat’ and she told me to grab that. She told me not to worry and that in a couple of days my lips would be perfect.

“After she left I cried, I was scared and hysterical because of the pain and how they looked.

“I messaged her to say I was worried and after two hours she messaged me back saying ‘I think you need to get them checked’.

“She said her friend could remove them and picked me up the following day.

“I had to keep the frozen gammon joint on my face all the way there as my lips were absolutely huge and were purple.

“The beautician said she wasn’t happy with my blood pressure and advised me to go to my local A&E.”

Kelly was driven to Pinderfields Hospital’s A&E department where shocked doctors examined her black and blue lips and sent her home with steroids.

The following day Kelly was driven back to the beautician in Huddersfield who was only able to dissolve some of the product leaving her with lumpy lips - and her top lip double the size of the bottom one.

Kelly said: “My top lip was way bigger than my bottom lip as she could only remove so much.

“My lips were disfigured for three weeks, they were so misshapen, I had to massage them daily to try and get rid of the lumps that were bigger than a pea."

However Kelly’s ordeal didn’t end there, the day after some of the filler was removed Kelly’s lips erupted in clusters of painful cold sores.

Kelly said: “It was awful, they were so sore, the beautician couldn’t remove any more of the filler because of them.

“It was horrendous not being able to kiss the kids goodnight as I couldn’t go near them.

“I used cold sore cream on them as I couldn’t wear anything on my lips. Now I have to wear lip balm constantly all through the day because my lips are really dry.

“My top lip is still bigger than my bottom one and when I smile you can still see the lumps but they look a lot better than they did.

“I’m scared I’m going to look like this until they’re totally out - I would never get fillers done again.

“I feel that the law should say that only medically qualified people can do this - she could have killed me.”

The beautician was contacted for comment but failed to respond.
