Nine ducklings that hatched at the pond at Musashino City Daisan Elementary School were led by their mother to Inokashira Park about 600 meters south of the school. The mother and her ducklings completed their about 30-minute journey without any problems as the school's janitors kept them safe by stopping traffic.

Every year since 2017, the ducks will make their way to Inokashira Park after the ducklings are hatched, according to the school. This year, the parents arrived at the school at the end of April and the mother left with her ducklings for the park at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The ducklings struggled to keep up with their mother as they all waddled through the city.

"I was surprised to see the ducks use the crosswalk when crossing the street. I hope they come back next year to lay their eggs," Masaharu Oki, a janitor of the elementary school, said.
