David Duchovny is to make his feature writing and directing debut on the sentimental film House of D, which will star his wife Tea Leoni and Robin Williams.
The X-Files man has conjured up a movie described as an "emotional fable" about the sweeping power of friendship set against a New York backdrop. It will focus on a man (Williams) who is forced to come to terms with his past by connecting to the people in his life who have helped make him what he is.
Producers plan to tell the tale through a series of flashbacks to earlier stages in his life, featuring young actor Tyler Hoechlin, who recently played Tom Hanks's son in gangster drama Road to Perdition, as the juvenile Williams.
Duchovny is also set to take a small role in the movie, which has not been given a release date. His previous experience in the director's chair includes several episodes of the popular conspiracy theory sci-fi series, for which he also took on writing duties regularly during its nine-year run.
