Duchess of Northumberland lays wreath at socially distanced Cramlington Remembrance ceremony

The Duchess of Northumberland laid a wreath at a small, socially distanced ceremony at Cramlington War Memorial on Armistice Day.

As Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland the Duchess was there as a personal representative of Her Majesty The Queen.

The ceremony was led by Rev David Gray who then invited other wreath layers who included Town Mayor Loraine De Simone, Councillor Ann Mitcheson, members of the Cramlington Branch of the Royal British Legion and representatives from other organisations.

Other members of the public observed and stood in silence to pay their respects.

Mayor Loraine De Simone said: "Although Cramlington was not able to mark Remembrance in the way we normally do I was pleased that people were able to pay their respects while adhering to Government guidelines.

“Residents have already laid wreaths and tributes at the War Memorial over the last few days and I thank them for doing so.

“They have created a very poignant tribute. It was an honour to have the Lord Lieutenant here today joining in with the simple ceremony that showed Cramlington remembers."
