Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton stuns parents by dropping in at Cardiff baby class

A group of new parents got a real surprise when the Duchess of Cambridge visited their baby class.

Kate was at the Ely & Caerau Children's Centre to launch a landmark national survey about the issue of early years development, describing the years as life's most "crucial" moment for "future health and happiness".

She has made the subject one of the main pillars of her public work and is visiting five cities in 24 hours to highlight her project and to ask "five big questions on the under fives" which will guide her future work.

During her visit to Cardiff, she was more than happy to play with the babies and speak to the parents about their experiences.

Louise Davies, Head of Save the Children in Wales said: " At Save the Children we recognise just how vital a child’s earliest experiences are.

"In Wales we work closely with our partners to provide parents with resources and support for their child’s early learning and development. We look forward to seeing the results of the research and hearing what the public think about this important issue ."

The online poll, conducted by Ipsos Mori on behalf of the Royal Foundation, is thought to be the biggest survey of its kind and aims to encourage a nationwide conversation on early childhood.

The Duchess' survey will run for a month, from January 21 to February 21, and will ask those taking the poll five questions to gauge their views about early years.
