Duchess of Cambridge demonstrates support by wearing Ukrainian blue

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, with Kate Middleton – a pro in diplomatic dressing – donning a £520 Alexander McQueen blue cashmere jumper to show solidarity with Ukraine amid the ongoing war crisis.

During the visit, the couple — who also sported blue and yellow badges in homage to the inflicted nation’s flag — met with members of the Ukrainian community and volunteers to learn about services being offered at the centre. As well as offering practical hands-on help, the royals brought homemade brownies and granola bars with them to show appreciation for the volunteers.

Lastly, they spoke with Saleh Saeed, CEO of the Disasters Emergency Committee, which has so far raised over £120 million for its member charities working on the ground, to hear about the ongoing Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, and were advised on how the public can best support Ukraine moving forwards.

This wasn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shown their support for Ukraine. On February 26, two days after the Russians began their invasion, they tweeted on the Kensington Royal official Instagram account:

“In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelensky and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future. Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future”.

To which President Zelensky responded: ‘Olena and I are grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge that at this crucial time, when Ukraine is courageously opposing Russia’s invasion, they stand by our country and support our brave citizens. Good will triumph.’
