Duchess Meghan gives birth to a boy, Buckingham Palace reports

The newest royal baby is finally here.

A week after her due date, Duchess Meghan gave birth to a baby boy early Monday morning, Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement.

This is Prince Harry and Meghan's first child, but the baby's name is still not known. Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, kept the child's gender, name and other details private throughout the pregnancy.

The boy's weight at birth was 7 pounds and 3 ounces, the palace said.

"The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives," the statement reads.

Harry was by her side during labor, according to the palace.

Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, was with the Duchess at Frogmore Cottage.

Last week, royal baby watchers went into a frenzy when a photo of what they thought was Harry and Meghan's new baby was posted to Buckingham Palace's social media accounts. But it was a false alarm, and actually a picture of the Countess of Wessex visiting babies being helped by programs in India supported by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

The couple announced the pregnancy in October, only narrowing a due date down to "the spring of 2019."

In February, Meghan Markle was in New York City for a baby shower with friends. She reportedly spent five days of fun in the Big Apple and was photographed leaving a posh Upper East Side hotel.
