Ducati Finally Lets Customers Customize Their Bikes With New Factory Made Program

Italian exotic automotive manufacturers are famous for denying the customization of their cars if the design is, well, crap. So, how wonderfully refreshing it is to see that Ducati is opening a new channel of near-endless customization for its motorcycles straight from the factory, via the Ducati Factory Made (DFM) program.

The first and only bike so far to be a part of the DFM program is the Multistrada V4. And if you're thinking of picking up a new Multistrada and want to put your personal touch on it, you can spec certain colors, options, and accessories at the point of order, and Ducati's workers will make it as you wish on the production line at the brand's facility in Borgo Panigale, Italy. So when it arrives, the bike will be customized straight out of the crate. Well, when I say "you", I'm referring to readers in Europe.

The program is currently focusing on European customers and isn't available in the US, yet. But, hopefully, it will roll around to the US because there's undoubtedly a sizable market for this right now. The idea just makes sense; Once the bike arrives, there's no messing around with panels, pulling them off, and opening up the possibility of ruining your paint scheme or damaging the parts themselves. The bike will have already passed Ducati's factory standards, with your custom touches, before you get the keys.

According to Ducati, "Among the main innovations introduced by Ducati Factory Made are colours and liveries that allow customers to express their style through unique and distinctive colour combinations. The range spans from Icone colours, symbolising Ducati tradition, to the glossy colours of the Style series, which enhance elegance and modernity, to the matt colours of the Sophistication collection, designed for those seeking an exclusive and distinctive touch."

But the details buyers can customize go far beyond the paint on the fairings. You can delve into altering cast wheels in multiple colours, forged light alloy or spoked wheels, and colour options for the rear frame and brake calipers. The DFM program also includes height configuration options for the rider and passenger seats and suspension. And if you remember the Italian automotive manufacturers I mentioned in the opening paragraph, well, one of them is involved too.

The DFM program marks a new chapter in the collaboration between the Borgo Panigale manufacturer and Automobili Lamborghini, which has already resulted in the special versions of the Diavel 1260, Streetfighter V4, and Panigale V4. Practically, within the program, this means customers can choose Lamborghini's exclusive Ad Personam options: Viola Pasifae, Arancio Xanto, Giallo Belenus, Blu Uranus, and Verde Scandal.

So if you want to make your Ducati embody your personal tastes, or look like a Lamborghini, the DFM program is for you. You'll just need to wait until it comes stateside.
