Daniel Dubois bounced back from his first career defeat as he knocked out Romania’s Bogdan Dinu in Telford.
One of heavyweight boxing’s most formidable rising stars saw his progress severely stunted in November after he was upset by Joe Joyce in a memorable all-British clash at Westminster’s Church House.
Dubois faced accusations of quitting after taking a knee and being counted out in that fight, but it later emerged that he had suffered a fractured eye socket and nerve damage that required surgery.
Now recovered and with a new trainer in Shane McGuigan, the Greenwich fighter got his career swiftly back on track with an emphatic second-round knockout of the experienced Dinu.
As well as potentially helping to seal a rematch against Joyce, victory in tonight’s WBA final eliminator also saw Dubois become interim champion and mandatory challenger to ‘regular’ title-holder Trevor Bryan.
Elsewhere on Saturday night’s card, Tommy Fury - still embroiled in a war of words with Jake Paul - came through his toughest test to date against Jordan Grant and Stoke’s Nathan Heaney stopped Iliyan Markov.
