Dubliners urged to 'respect' emergency services during busy Halloween period

People have been advised to "respect" emergency services in Dublin during the busy Halloween period.

Just last week, Dublin Fire Brigade firefighters came under attack as teenage thugs threw rocks at their fire engine in south Dublin.

And earlier this month, firefighters responding to a bonfire near Liffey Valley had rocks thrown at them.

Young people also have been warned against lighting bonfires as they are an “unnecessary extra burden” on the emergency services.

Firefighters from the Dublin Fire Brigade were called to 43 incidents alone yesterday.

A spokesperson for the South Dublin County Council said: “Every year Dublin Fire, Ambulance & Rescue Service answer hundreds of calls over the Halloween period.

“Respect the emergency services, council staff and An Garda Siochána who are busy fighting fires and saving lives. Bonfires are an unnecessary extra burden on them.”
