Dubliners urged to remain within their 5km during good weather this weekend

The impending good weather has prompted a plea to Dubliners to remain within their 5km this weekend.

The Office of Public Works says it doesn’t want to see a repeat of last Sunday when the Phoenix Park was “extremely busy” - despite the threat of COVID and the stringent travel restrictions in place to battle the virus.

Large crowds visiting the famous Dublin park last weekend forced gardai to close the Chapelizod gates in a bid to stem the tide of people.

The Phoenix Park Twitter account advises people to "leave the car at home", where possible and ensure that parking spaces are left “for those who really need it.”

They took to social media to ask the public not to drive to the park and they advised them to visit outside of peak hours in order to prevent large crowds in the area during the pandemic.

With good weather predicted for the weekend, park users are urged to keep safe and practice social distancing.

Here is the predicted forecast for the days ahead:

Saturday

Tomorrow, Saturday, will bring a mix of cloud and bright or sunny spells. Isolated showers will occur during the morning and again towards evening. Highs of 11 to 13 degrees Celsius in light southwest or variable breezes.

In the night, there will be patchy cloud and clear spells with isolated showers. Lows of 0 to 5 degrees will produce a slight frost in some parts. Winds will be light variable or near calm allowing mist and fog patches to form, with fog becoming dense in places towards dawn.

Sunday

Mist and fog patches may be slow clear on Sunday morning in the near calm conditions, but sunny spells will break through in most places by the afternoon. Dry with highs of 9 to 11 degrees with light easterly breezes developing.

A dry night with clear spells. Mist and fog patches will return with a few pockets of dense fog occurring towards dawn. Lows of 1 to 4 degrees in light easterly breezes.
