Dubliners report 'outrageous' noise from city centre as truckers protest rising fuel costs

Dubliners have been taking to social media to complain about the noise surrounding the city centre as hundreds of truck drivers from across Ireland protest rising fuel costs.

One person, unaware of the protest this morning, wrote online: “Did anyone else in Dublin 1 just hear that noise? What the hell was that?”

The man went on to say it “sounded like a chorus of the trumpets of hell”.

After people identified the noise as coming from this morning’s demonstration, others began to chime in, annoyed by the level of noise.

One wrote: “Yeah, at 9:30 in the morning????? I got woken up by that it was terrifying.”

A second said: "Well that was outrageous and terrifying on a Wednesday..."

Another said; “You’re meant to cause disturbance to the ones causing your point of protest, not the public who you want support from.”

Meanwhile, people living as far out as Cabra, and further south in Crumlin claimed to hear the same disturbance this morning.

Hundreds of truck drivers arrived in Dublin for a protest to demand that the Irish government lowers the cost of fuel in order to save their industry.

The groups, who call themselves the Irish Truckers and Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices, travelled to Kildare Street in the city centre in the early hours and remain there this afternoon.

Alongside the noise complaints, there is major traffic disruption in parts of Dublin city centre as a result.

Gardai say the worst of the traffic right now is on the M50 southbound from Junction 7 at Palmerstown to Junction 9 at Red Cow.
