Dublin Zoo want you to name their new baby gorilla with a great prize on offer

Dublin Zoo have called on the public to help them name their adorable new baby gorilla.

The western lowland gorilla was born to mother Vana and father Bangui in October.

Keepers were initially unable to determine the sex of the infant as Vana has been keeping the baby close to her chest since the birth.

But zoo staff have since established that baby is male and now need a name for the cute youngster.

He is the second baby gorilla born in the zoo this year.

The newborn weighed around 2.5kg at birth and is the second off-spring of father Bangui, joining half-sister Asali who was born in April 2019.

As western lowland gorillas originate from Central Africa, zoo bosses have asked that competition entrants suggest names of African origin.

The winning entry will receive a family day pass to Dublin Zoo.

The competition can be entered on Dublin Zoo's website.
