Dublin Zoo has announced that it will stay OPEN during the next lockdown after a very successful fundraising campaign to save the family attraction.
More than €2.7 million was raised as part of the Save Dublin Zoo campaign that was launched as the landmark venue's funds began to dwindle.
It costs €500,000 every month to feed the animals in the zoo, with many of them at risk or endangered. Ticket sales have dwindled since the pandemic began, eliminating a vital income lifeline for the zoo.
Although the zoo is to remain open, it will only be for people who are living in Dublin due to the travel restrictions being introduced on December 27.
In a statement, Dublin Zoo said: "Following the recent announcement from Taoiseach Micheál Martin regarding COVID-19, Dublin Zoo will remain open as usual.
"All ticket bookings made online between December 27th and January 12th with an address outside Dublin will be automatically refunded. Please allow 15 working days for your refund to be processed.
"Animal, staff and visitor safety is paramount at Dublin Zoo and we are extremely grateful for your support this Christmas."
