Dublin X Factor star Mary Byrne to compete in all-star series

Dublin X Factor star Mary Byrne will return to the small screen to battle it out with other former contestants in an exciting new all-star series.

The X Factor: All Stars show will feature some of its most successful contestants and previous winners.

Ahead of the brand new show, Louis Walsh told Mirror Online that Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward are all on the line up.

He revealed he's flying out to Los Angeles to begin filming the Celebrity version of the ITV talent show, and says they'll begin with the 'All Stars' version straight after.

Louis said: "It’s going to be great, and then we do the 'best of' all in one week, all the winners are coming back. Leona's coming back, Alexandra, Shayne, they’re all coming back."

Former Tesco worker Mary was "astonished" when she got the call to ask her to be on the new show.

Mary, 59, wowed audiences back in 2010 and made it all the way to the live semi-final only to lose out to Cher Lloyd.

And it's understood talent bosses were keen to secure the Ballyfermot native for the new show.

Other former Irish contestants, including Jedward, are not expected to take part.

It's believed Mary's personality was key to her being chosen as she was a firm favourite with the judges.

A source told The Irish Sun: “Mary was the one everyone loved. She endeared herself to everyone on the show.

“Mary would love to do the X Factor again if only to get to the final which she didn’t get make in 2010.

“But she knows she would have the battle of her life competing against the likes of Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward.”

Mary declined to comment last night but it's understood she has freed up a number of dates in early December.

The new show is expected to air this December on Virgin Media One.
