Dublin writer who died in UK hospital after years of addiction and homelessness named locally as Trevor 'Mack' MacCormack

A Dublin man who turned his life around after years of addiction and homelessness has sadly died in a UK hospital.

Trevor MacCormack - known as ‘Mack’ to his friends - died at the Countess of Chester Hospital, aged 46, surrounded by family recently.

After years of living on the streets, Mack finally found a place to call home and even launched a poetry book entitled Looking Back last year as he looked to get his life back on track.

A talented writer, Mack found himself on the streets of Chester after leaving his native Dublin in 1999 according to Cheshire Live.

His experiences of loneliness, homelessness and depression led him to start writing poetry which he found as a way of confronting his thoughts and fears.

He never showed anyone his works until he met former English teacher Campbell Russell and his wife Ann.

At the launch of his book entitled Looking Back at Chester’s SHARE shop, Mack said: “I really wasn’t sure I wanted anyone to read what I had written.

"But now I want to continue writing and to help others find a way to express themselves through poetry or story writing.”

Sandra Blythin, outreach manager for the SHARE charity, said Mack found a home but "still had his demons".

She said: “He was very brave, very thoughtful, very sensitive as well. He cared a lot about other people. He wanted to make sure this [homelessness] was put right.”
