Writer Ulick O’Connor has died at the age of 91.
The Dubliner, who was a well known poet, historian and critic, passed away on Monday.
He has also written a column for the Sunday Mirror and a sporting column for the Sunday Times, as well as broadcasting on RTÉ.
O’Connor studied law and practised as a barrister for 15 years, before turning to writing full time.
Tributes poured in online, with Ulick being remembered as “a unique writer.”
Minister Josepha Madigan said: “So sorry to hear about the death of Ulick O’Connor.
“He was a unique writer poet and historian and an outspoken commentator on social, cultural and political issues. RIP”
Another added: “Met Ulick O’Connor once or twice. A really nice man with some great story stories to tell.”
