Dublin woman who celebrates 100 birthday tells her secret to long healthy life

It was all smiles and celebrations yesterday as Maureen Lowe celebrated her 100th birthday.

She is a resident of Gladys Nursing Home in Harold’s Cross and has been there since 2018.

The bingo loving centenarian celebrated her birthday with four generations of family including the youngest, one-year-old Rio.

And her family are so happy that they had the chance to spend her special day with her after a tough year.

Her daughter Joan Connell said “it means so much” to be throwing a party to mark the occasion.

She told the Irish Mirror: “Mam actually lived with me for 22 years, until she came into the care home.

“She’s an amazing woman, she loves her fluffy socks and is just so easy-going.

“It was very hard last year when we couldn’t come and visit her and for her, it was even harder.

“She didn’t eat for six weeks when she didn’t get visitors, she was so used to seeing at least one person every day.

“It’s so nice to get everyone together like this and enjoy the time now, it really means so much.”

Daughter in law Phyllis Lowe added: “We’ll never take it for granted again.”
