A Dublin woman is desperately appealing for witnesses after her elderly mum was knocked down by a careless driver in west Dublin.
Joan Darcy, 78, had to be rushed to a clinic after she was hit by a car while crossing the road in Palmerstown.
The incident happened at around 12.45 pm yesterday outside the Palmerstown Community School at the top of Oakcourt Avenue.
Daughter Shona Hayes said: “The car was turning left towards Ballyfermot and mam was walking from Ballyfermot towards the Silver Granite. She's unsure of the car or reg as she was in shock but she thinks it was a grey hatchback.
“The driver, a blonde female in her 40s, brought her to the doctor's surgery facing SuperValu to have her checked.”
Joan had bruised ribs, a sore wrist, ankle, and knee but thankfully she wasn’t badly injured, Shona said.
Appallingly the driver gave Joan a fake name and phone number, and left her at the surgery to walk home by herself despite her injuries.
Shona is hoping someone may have witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage as there was another car behind them.
She added: “[Joan] is a bit bewildered by it all. Doesn't really see the bad in people and didn't want to ring any of the family so as not to worry us.
"She's still sore today but nothing to worry about i think but we are keeping a close eye on her.
“Unfortunately I haven't been successful with cctv. The GP doesn't have any and we tried the supermarket across the road with no luck.
“The garage has a camera that may have caught something so ill feed that back to the guards. Fingers crossed!”
