Dublin woman looking at €800-a-month flat told she'd have to share bed with 'landlord'

A Dublin woman was left "floored" by a landlord who "miscommunicated" a scandalous condition of renting a room.

Kate, who was searching for a place with her partner, has told of how she went to see an €800 per-month room in Clonskeagh for a woman describing herself as the landlady to break the news that she'd have to share a bed with her.

Speaking to 98fm, the Dubliner described the harrowing moment the woman went through the view only to break the news near the end.

She said: "I went to see on my own, which was my first mistake, it was a double room which was advertised as a double. It was out in Clonskeagh

"I met the landlady, I don't believe she owned the property, then I went to meet the person who was advertising the double room.

"She showed me all around the house then showed me the double.

"Seemed OK, the place was falling apart, but we were desperate.

"Then she pulled back the duvet of the bed and said 'this will be your half of the bed, it'll be your side', and that was a double room advertised for €800.

"Then there were overhead wardrobes built in and she had cleared out half for me.

"She was going to be in the other half with a total stranger."

Gobsmacked Kate went on to say a number of others asked to see the room which wasn't advertised to be shared.

She said: "I have to be honest, so many of these posts, all the same.

"Not just sharing rooms, sharing beds, it's becoming more and more common to see.

"I couldn't believe it. I was completely and utterly floored."

When asked, the woman told her it must have been a "miscommunication" after Kate explained she was looking with her partner.

"I was one of several people who commented on her Facebook and made contact for a viewing, so she more than likely filled it.

"You see posts all the time being open about bed sharing, and people respond to them."
