A Dublin window company has issued a warning over the use of blackout blinds in the hot weather his summer.
The blinds are usually used to help children sleep during the bright evenings or for nap time during the day. Adults who work night shifts and need to sleep during the day also sometimes use them.
But due to the hot weather, Expert Windows, who are based in Stepaside, South Dublin, issued a warning. This comes after cracked and broken windows have been reported online due to using the blinds that block the sun's rays.

A spokesman told RSVP Live: "Dark colours absorb heat, so if you have a dark blind that's going to cause your window to heat up. It depends on the type of window that you have, and the age of the window. But if you have a PVC window frame, PVC can expand so you could get cracks in the glass."
He said if you have blackout blinds, you shouldn't leave them pulled down all day long because this can cause heat and condensation to build up. Parents on social media have reported having issues with blackout blinds on hot days.
One mum said: “If you know anyone that uses blackout blinds for their children’s rooms, show them this lovely crack in our window and get them to take them down.”
Another man added: “TOP TIP: with this hot weather make sure you have gaffer tape handy to tape up all the massive cracks in your window when your blackout blind has been too close to the glass. Also make sure any blackout blinds are not too close to the glass, turns out they can crack!"
