Dublin Weather: When will former hurricane Lorenzo hit Ireland and how strong will it be? Here's what Met Eireann say

Met Eireann say it's a "high probability" former hurricane Lorenzo will hit Ireland this week.

Experts are closely monitoring the storm's movement as it hurtles towards the island with winds clocking over 250km/h.

Luckily for us, it's expected to lose most of its power by the time it hits - but don't breath a sigh of relief just yet as winds of up to 170km/h could still batter us.

When will it hit Ireland?

The warning will be issued on Wednesday morning, although Lorenzo is expected to hit  around Thursday.

Met Eirean said: "There it a high probability that Storm Lorenzo will track close to or over Ireland later on Thursday and early Friday, giving high seas, severe winds and heavy rain.

"Warnings will be issued Wednesday morning."

How strong will it be?

The west coast could be hit with 115km/h gusts, and Lorenzo's average wind speed should be between 95km/h and 100km/h which is just 20km/h off having hurricane status.

Worst affected parts?

Luckily Dublin won't be the worst of them.

Galway and Mayo look like they'll be hit the hardest while Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Limerick, and Clare will also get some of the worst.

What are Met Eireann saying about Dublin?

The experts haven't made an exact prediction for the capital beyond Wednesay.

But here's what they're saying.

Thursday

WAVES CRASH ONTO THE TRAIN TRACKS NEAR SEAPOINT, SOUTH DUBLIN

Though there is still uncertainty regarding the exact track of Lorenzo, there is a high probability that it could track close to or over Ireland in a weakened form, bringing strong winds, southeasterly initially, veering westerly and strengthening further, with a risk of severe winds developing later Thursday and Thursday night, depending on the track.

Spells of rain also, with high seas and swells. However, the details of the forecast may change.

Friday

Current indications are that conditions will quickly improve, with winds veering northwesterly early on and becoming mostly moderate during the morning. Becoming mainly dry also, with maximum temperatures in the mid to high teens.
