Dublin weather: Weekend of winter ahead as temperatures take a dramatic dip

It's a beautiful Friday morning in the capital, but enjoy it while you can because the good weather isn't hanging around for much longer.

After a few days of glorious sunshine, we're in for a sharp shock to the system, with temperatures set to plunge over the coming days.

Met Eireann are expecting the remainder of the day to be dry but cold, with just a few sunny spells expected in the capital.

Their Dublin forecast reads: "Generally dry today but rather cloudy with just a few sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in moderate southeast winds."

Tonight will be cold, with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees. Moderate southeast winds will increase fresh overnight.

Tomorrow looks like a cold one in the capital.

Met Eireann predicts: "Saturday will still be generally dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees and feeling cool in the fresh southeast winds."

It will remain cool for the weekend, they add, but their National Outlook for the week ahead does show some promise, with temperatures tipped to return to the mid teens by midweek.

They say: "Sunday will be a cold day with further rain across Munster and Connacht. Elsewhere it will stay largely dry but rather cloudy.

"The rain will become lighter and more intermittent as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of just 6 to 9 degrees with a brisk southeast wind as well.

"It looks like most areas will be dry on Sunday night but rain is set to continue on west and southwest coasts."

The weather experts say that rain is likely again on Monday in many areas with the heaviest rain in the west and southwest and good dry periods in the east and north.

They add: "Afternoon temperatures will be around 10 degrees with ongoing fresh and gusty southeast breezes."

It will become drier and milder on Tuesday with just a few outbreaks of rain and highest temperatures in the low to mid teens."
