Dublin weather: Week of rain and freezing temperatures, say Met Eireann

It's a bright and sunny morning in Dublin but there's a grim week in store for the capital with Met Eireann predicting plenty of rain and chilly temperatrues.

The first frost of the winter appeared this morning but that will clear quickly this morning to leave a bright and sunny day although it will remain cool with highs of just 12 to 14C.

Light rain and drizzle will arrive tonight as temperatures plummet to between 6 and 8C.

Monday will begin wet with scattered showers hitting throughout the day.

It will be warmer than recent days with highs of 16 to 18C and the rain is expected to clear later in the day.

But Met Eireann say this will be just a brief respite with the plenty of grim weather in store for the rest of the week.

Here's how the national forecast is looking:

Tuesday: " Generally dry for Tuesday with sunny spells and well scattered showers, most frequent in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes. However, cloud will increase in the west later in the day as it pushes in from the Atlantic ahead of rain moving in late evening with freshening winds on western coasts."

Wednesday: " A wet and blustery start to the day as rain continues to move eastwards clearing into the Irish Sea but further heavy and frequent showers or longer spells of rain will continue to feed across the country from the Atlantic. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds."

Thursday: " Blustery to start on Thursday with moderate to fresh westerly winds, still with scattered showers, becoming more isolated during the day with sunny spells as winds decrease mainly light southwesterly. Cool with highest temperatures of just 10 to 13 degrees."

Friday: " Friday will be a cool and fresh day with sunny spells and further spells of rain and showers. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in mainly moderate northerly winds, becoming blustery later."

The weekend looks set to remain unsettled with further spells of rain and string winds predicted to batter the country.
