Dublin weather: Week of hell for Ireland say Met Eireann as July heatwave to scorch Europe

Met Eireann has said that Dublin is in for a week of hell with cloudy, unsettled and heavy rain to batter the capital for the rest of the week.

There is good news though as drier, brighter weather is being forecast for the early days of next week.

And who knows what might follow that, there's currently scorching weather hitting mainland Europe with Madrid to hit the 40C mark.

Hopefully as the month goes on, our neighbours Spain will share some of their sun with us and we can get back to those magnificent May moments of close to 30C here.

It is forecast to pick up slightly as we head into the weekend but daytime temperatures are still slightly below average for this time of year

Today will be rather cloudy with scattered outbreaks of showery, heavy rain.

Highest temperatures of 18C will drop to 10C by night time with showery rain becoming drier and clearer by dawn.

Here's what Met Eireann are forecasting for the rest of the week and into the weekend - we'll give you a clue, you won't need your suncream.

Thursday: "Mostly dry on Thursday with a mixture of cloud and sunny spells. Isolated showers are possible along the coast, however these will be few and far between. Afternoon highs of 17 or 18 degrees and feeling warm in sunshine. Winds will be light westerly."

Friday: "A dull, wet and breezy day. Rain will be persistent and heavy at times in the west, but will tend to break up further east with dry spells developing, particularly in the midlands and southeast. Remaining cloudy throughout. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, in fresh southwest winds, strong on coasts.
Cloudy on Friday night, with rain clearing to scattered showers, before another pulse of rain moves in from the west towards dawn. Mild overnight, with minimum temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in a moderate southwesterly breeze."

Saturday: "A mild, cloudy and breezy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 16 degrees in the northwest to 21 degrees in the southeast, in a fresh southwest breeze, strong on south and west coasts."

Sunday: "A blustery day with sunshine and showers. The showers most frequent and heavy in the west and north. Cooler than previous days with brisk westerly winds which will be strong on coasts. Highs of 14 to 18 degrees."

Early next week: "Mostly dry with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday, with highs of 14 to 17 degrees. Becoming slightly more unsettled from Wednesday."
