Dublin weather: Urgent 15-hour warning in place in Ireland say Met Eireann as wintry conditions hit

Thunder and hail will cover Dublin over Wednesday night and Thursday after an urgent weather warning in Ireland this week.

The wintry conditions will follow the seven county warning put in place in Ireland today with neighbouring county Wicklow among those on the list.

Today, mist and fog patches will clear giving a bright day with sunny spells.

It will be dry for most of the day with temperatures of 15C dropping to 10C overnight as rain turns persistent and heavy.

About that weather warning, the status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Wexford, Wicklow, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry and Waterford from 9pm tonight until 12pm tomorrow.

Met Eireann warn: "Heavy and at times intense rainfall with totals of 25 to 40mm expected. This may result in localized flooding. The rain will clear western counties by early Wednesday morning."

Here's how the rest of the week is looking:

Wednesday: "A wet and blustery start tomorrow, with heavy rain for a time bringing a risk of spot flooding. The rain will gradually clear to scattered showers with bright spells developing towards evening. Highest temperatures of 13 or 14 degrees. Fresh to strong southerly winds will veer westerly and ease as the rain clears."

Wednesday night : "Showers will continue most frequent in the west, where some will be heavy and possibly thundery with hail. Longer clearer intervals will occur over eastern parts of the country. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coldest in the east where some grass frost is possible. Light west to southwest breezes will be moderate at the coasts."

Thursday : "Widespread showers for a time, some of the showers heavy and possibly thundery with hail. Sunny spells will occur also. Light southerly breezes veering westerly. Cool, with highest temperatures of just 10 to 12 degrees."

Friday : "Another cool day with a mix of bright spells and scattered showers, with the showers most frequent in the east of the country. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees, in moderate to fresh northerly winds."

Next Weekend: "Current indications suggest that it will remain cool and unsettled for the weekend with showers or longer spells of rain, turning heavy at times. There is also the potential for strong winds on Sunday, particularly in the west and northwest."
