Dublin weather today: With Met Eireann's weather alert gone, what lies in store for the capital today?

Dublin will be lashed with heavy rain as ex-Hurricane Humbert is set to hit Ireland this week.

Despite the weather warning coming to an end in the early hours of today, the capital will see lashing rain and thundery showers.

A Met Eireann forecaster has warned of unsettled weather with “above average rainfall in most parts”.

Today will start off cloudy with outbreaks of rain, but brighter conditions will develop in the afternoon with sunny spells.

What causes thunder and lightning?

But the sunny spells won’t last for long as there will be scattered possibly heavy showers with a risk of thunder.

Maximum temperatures will be of 17C to 18C.

Tonight will be dry with clear intervals with minimum temperatures of 7C to 8C.

Tomorrow will be cloudy again with more rain expected in the early morning or afternoon.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “The rain will be persistent, with a few heavier bursts possible.

“Drier conditions, with scattered showers, will develop later and winds will veer southerly and ease. Maximum temperatures 17C or 18C.”

Tomorrow night will see a few scattered showers with 6C to 10C temperatures.

Tuesday will start off dry and sunny in most areas but not for too long.

The forecaster continued: “Scattered showers in the southwest and west will gradually become more widespread and a spell of heavier rain will extend across much of the southern half of the country during the afternoon and evening, with a risk of thunder.

“Maximum temperatures 15C to 19C, in mostly moderate south to southwest winds, strengthening along western and southern coasts.

“Tuesday night: Dry spells, with scattered showers. Mist and fog patches developing as winds slacken. Minimum 10C to 14C.”.
