Dublin weather today: The capital lashed by heavy rain and gale force winds as Storm Ciara batters Ireland

A Status Orange wind warning is in place as Storm Ciara barrels through Ireland.

Met Eireann has warned of powerful gusts of up to 130 km/h and coastal flooding.

The warning is in place until 12 noon today.

It’ll be a miserable morning in Dublin with strong to gale force winds and heavy thundery downpours which could lead to localise flooding.

Things will brighten up during the afternoon with sunny spells and widespread blustery showers.

Temperatures will range between 9C and 11C.

Speaking about tonight, a Met Eireann forecaster said: “Tonight will stay windy with strong to near gale force westerly winds, steering in a scattering of showers, some of which will be wintry especially on hills, and with the risk of hail and thunder.

“Cold with frost and ice, mainly in sheltered spots, with the possibility of some snow lying by morning. Overnight lows of 1C or 2C.”

Dublin will be hit by hail, sleet, and snow tomorrow as day time temperatures will struggle to reach 5C.

It’ll be very cold and windy with “a significant wind chill factor”.

The national outlook says there will be strong to gale force west and northwest winds on Monday night.

“Further hail, sleet and snow showers feeding in with further accumulations of snow in parts and icy patches. Lows around freezing.

“Tuesday will be a bitterly cold day and still very windy with a significant wind chill factor. Very showery too, still wintry at times, with hail, sleet and snow.

“Westerly winds will be fresh to strong and gusty, with gales in western and northern coastal areas. Highs of only 3C to 7C. Winds moderating overnight with some frost and ice developing too, and overnight lows of -1C to 2C.

“Wednesday will be another cold day but with lighter winds, at least for daylight hours. A frosty start but sunny spells developing as hail, sleet and snow showers becoming gradually confined to Ulster.”
