Dublin weather today: Temperatures to drop significantly with heavy thundery showers on the way

It's a gloomy morning in the capital and it looks like we're going to have to get used the miserable weather with a very depressing forecast in store.

Today will remain cool and dry although the cloudy morning is likely to give way to some sunny spells this afternoon.

And Met Eireann are saying we may even have some sunshine as temperatures hit 16 or 17C.

But it's going to be chilly this evening as temperatures drop to as low as 5 or 6C.

And the forecasters says we can expect a changeable and gloomy week ahead.

Monday will be dry and bright with temperatures of 16 or 17C before patchy mist or fog develops at night.

The national forecast isn't very encouraging with some nippy nights in store.

Temperatures may reach as high as 20C on Tuesday afternoon but it will be rather cloudy and it will get as cold as 6 or 7C at night.

There may be some sunny spells on Wednesday but there is a chance of heavy thundery showers.

But it looks like things may pick up as the weekend draws in.

The forecast reads: "Cool on Thursday also with northerly breezes and some further showers in eastern and southern areas but good dry bright periods also with some sunny spells in places.

"Slightly higher afternoon temperatures ranging from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius

"There is some uncertainty, but latest indications suggest it will become milder during Friday and Saturday with mostly east to northeast breezes and afternoon highs in the high teens or possibly low twenties in parts of the northwest but cooler near eastern coasts. There will be some showery rain in eastern counties at times."
