Dublin weather today: Met Eireann predicts 23C for Ireland but a change is on the way as UK hit with 'continental heat dome'

Dublin will reach highs of 23C on Tuesday according to Met Eireann but it won't be all sunshine for the capital as the hazy sunny spells are to be matched with some heavy and prolonged showers.

It will be warm and humid today and as we head into the night time, it will become mainly dry early in the night with the odd shower developing.

A spell of heavy rain will move in from the Atlantic affecting the western and northern half of the country but Leinster should remain fairly dry.

Lowest temperatures will range between 12 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest breezes.

As the week goes on however, things do not look too promising for the country.

Wednesday will start cloudy and damp in most areas with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards across the country.

The rain will become lighter and more showery during the afternoon with some bright and sunny spells developing in the west only.

Maximum temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Met Eireann say that the weather will become "increasingly unsettled with rain or showers" for the rest of the week.

Mirror.co.uk says that the UK and Europe is set to bake in a 31C heatwave as a 'continental heat dome' hits the country.

Temperatures will reach 27C in England today, with south, south-east and south-west England and south Wales basking in sunshine.

Things will get even hotter over the weekend and into next week, with Sunday bringing highs of 28C in some parts of the UK and Monday promising temperatures of 31C in places.

Sadly downpours will dampen the hot  weather  for many, with rainfall expected from tomorrow until Sunday in some areas.
