Dublin weather today: Met Eireann issue FOUR warnings as damaging 130km/h Storm Lorenzo finally hits Ireland

Storm Lorenzo is set to land in Ireland today bringing with it 130km/h severe gusts and the possibility of a status red warning.

Met Eireann currently has four weather warnings in place with additional ones due to follow as the day goes on.

There's a status orange wind warning in place for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

These counties will face gusts of up to 130km/h producing coastal flooding and damage.

It's in place from 6pm today until Friday morning at 3am.

There is also a status yellow wind warning and status yellow rain warning in place for the entire country today.

The remaining counties will see gusts of 100km/h with some disruptive impacts.

There will also be heavy rain in excess of 50mm in parts which will result in some flooding.

Both of these warnings are in place until Friday morning.

Also, the forecaster has issued a status orange gale warning which means: "Southeast gales developing this morning on all Irish Coastal Waters and on the Irish Sea, with strong gales in the west. Winds veering southwest in the afternoon and reaching storm force 10 at times in the west later."

Thursday in Dublin will start dry but will become wet and windy in the morning as Storm Lorenzo arrives.

Southeast winds will become strong with temperatures reaching as high as 17C.

These temperatures will drop to as low as 9C on Thursday night but will continue to be windy as the centre of Lorenzo tracks across Ireland.

Met Eireann's weather advisory states that Storm Lorenzo's impact will include disruptive winds, falling trees and flooding.

The storm will produce significant swell, high waves and sizeable storm surges too.

River levels are also currently elevated across the country and the rainfall may lead to river flooding, these will continue to rise even after Storm Lorenzo has passed.

Midland Weather Channel has said that "a red warning is likely" as the beast arrives on our shores.

They added that it will create a significant risk of coastal flooding as well as phenomenal sea swells and waves.

Cathal Nolan from the channel has said that coastal areas of the west may reach in excess of 140hm/h which would warrant a status red warning in some counties.

He added: "Though Lorenzo won’t be a hurricane when it makes landfall in Ireland it will remain a significant storm event which poses a threat to life."
