Dublin weather today: Met Eireann forecast 'fresh and breezy' day in the capital and there's worse to come

Summer is continuing its rapid retreat from the capital as temperatures continue to dip - and speaking of dips, it's going to get wet later.

Yes folks, autumn is here, and it's looking increasingly like winter might be muscling in sooner rather than later.

Here's what Met Eireann are forecasting for the days ahead in the capital.

Today (Wednesday, October 9)

"Breezy and fresh today, with sunny spells and scattered showers, with the odd one heavy," the experts say of today's weather in Dublin.

"Top temperatures 12 to 14 Celsius, with fresh and gusty southwest to westerly winds.

Wednesday night

"Drying out early tonight, with clear spells developing and winds moderating a little. But towards dawn, increasing clouds will bring a little patchy drizzle. Lows of 7 to 9 C overnight.

Thursday

"Tomorrow will be misty and mostly cloudy in Dublin, Met Eireann say, with patches of drizzle and rain at times."

The learned students of all things cloud-related add: "Some fog on hills and coasts also, but a few dry periods also. Top temperatures 15 to 17 C.

"It will become breezy also, with southwest winds increasing fresh and gusty."

National outlook for Friday and beyond

Friday

Met Eireann say: "A wet and breezy start to the day, with some heavy rain, mainly in the south of the country. But drier and brighter by lunchtime, with sunny spells developing. Then dry apart from a few scattered showers.

"Top temperatures 13 to 15 degrees, best in southern coastal counties. Fresh and gusty southwest winds will decrease moderate during the afternoon. Cool overnight with clear spells and scattered showers. Lowest temperatures 5 to 8 C."

Saturday

The Glasnevin-based weather gurus continue: "Some bright or sunny spells on Saturday morning, with just a few showers, these mainly over western and northwestern areas.

"Present indications suggest that cloudy, misty weather will spread up from the south in the afternoon, bringing rain to much of Munster and Leinster.

"Top afternoon temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees in moderate south to southeast winds. Further rain in all areas overnight, heaviest in southern and eastern areas, where some spot flooding is possible before dawn on Sunday."

Sunday

Sunday is looking like a showery day, according to Met Eireann , but "with occasional bright spells too.

Met Eireann's cultivated climate predictors add: "Many showers are likely to be heavy. Top temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees in freshening southerly breezes.

"Further showers overnight, possibly merging into longer spells of rain at times."
