Met Eireann has issued three weather warnings in Ireland as the country prepares for Storm Atiyah to hit.

A forecaster for Met Eireann told RTE Radio One that the terrifying Storm which is coming from Iceland will be "severe and potentially damaging".

A status yellow wind warning is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford until Monday at 6am.

In Dublin, the storm will generate very strong winds across with mean speeds reaching a max of 65km/h with gusts as strong as 110km/h.

There will be frequently blustery showers with a risk of hail and thunder with temperatures reaching 7C.

Met Eireann added: "Later in the evening strong westerly winds will veer northwesterly and increase to gale force with potentially damaging gusts and gales continuing along coasts."

The night time will be very windy with strong to gale force northwest winds with strong gusts. Showers will become isolated overnight with temperatures only dropping to 6C.

For the rest of the country, a status orange wind warning is in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick with winds hitting 80km/h with gusts of 130km/h.

That warning is also in place until 6am with Met Eireann saying that "there is a possibility of coastal flooding due to a combination of high seas and storm surge".

Also, a status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Donegal until 6pm this evening with rainfall accumulations of 30 to 40mm expected during the period.
