Dublin Weather: Temperatures to plummet to -1 on Saturday night as Met Eireann warn of wintry conditions for Ireland

With many people making trips up and down to Croke Park this weekend, Met Eireann has advised those driving to take care on the roads as temperatures are set to plummet into the minus territory.

Roads are set to be very busy this weekend as fans travel in their thousands to GAA HQ.

Derry and Leitrim play each other in the Division 4 league final while Donegal and Meath clash heads in the Division 2 final on Saturday.

Sunday, will see a triple header in Croker. Kilkenny face Galway in the camogie, Limerick take on Waterford in the hurling and Mayo and Kerry clash in the Division 1 football final.

While conditions for Saturday day were dry and bright, Met Eireann has told people to except frost and ice at night and in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They said: "Tonight will be mainly dry, with clear intervals developing in most parts, but it will be cloudier in the southwest, with a few patches of drizzle.

"It will be cold, with minimum temperatures generally of minus 1 to plus 2 Celsius, resulting in some frost and a risk of a few icy patches, especially in the northwest.

They added: "In the southwest, temperatures will be a little higher, with maximum values of 3 to 6 Celsius under mostly cloudy skies. Winds mostly light, north to northeast in direction."

BoyleSports are offering just 2/1 odds from 3/1 for Ireland’s highest ever temperature of 33.3C to be broken this year, sending the country into a frenzy of swim suits and sand castles.

As well as this, you can currently find odds of 2/1 that April 2019 will break its all-time highest temperature record of 25.8 C.

The highest temperature recorded in Ireland last April was 20C, so there is every chance that could happen.

On the flip side of that, the coldest ever temperature recorded in April saw mercury drop to -7.7C, and BoyleSports are offering 14/1 for that record to be broken. They are also offering 7/1 for April 2018 record of -5.3 C to be broken.

Sarah Kinsella, Spokesperson of BoyleSports said: “It was great to have such a lovely hot summer last year and after a mild winter, the 2/1 for Ireland to break the record of 33.3 looks pretty generous and we have had a lot of support for this.

She added: “There has also been some interest in last year’s highest temperature of 32 C being surpassed as we have had to slice the price from 11/10 into 5/6”.
