Dublin weather: Storm Jorge hits Ireland with EIGHT warnings, including red, in place bringing 'severe and damaging' gusts, thunder, flooding

Storm Jorge will hit Ireland hard today with eight weather warnings in place all over the country including one red warning.

Dublin will have a cold beginning on Saturday with frost and some icy patches in place followed by a band of heavy rain.

Showers of rain and hail will hit the capital with a continuing risk of thunder coming in the evening.

It will be extremely windy or stormy with very strong winds during the morning which will strengthen through the afternoon bringing with it severe and damaging gusts.

For Saturday night, Met Eireann added: "Scattered showers tonight, with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Minimum temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees, with frost and icy patches in inland sheltered spots. Westerly winds will gradually ease, however winds will remain strong near coasts early tonight."

Sunday will be cold and breezy to start as frost clears. There will be a mix of sunny spells and showers on Sunday with some of the showers becoming wintry over high ground.

As of 8am, Met Eireann has currently eight weather warnings in place throughout the whole country.

A Status Red Wind warning is in place for Galway and Clare from 1pm until 4pm today while three status orange wind warnings are in place elsewhere.

A Status Orange wind warning is in place for Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry from 6am Saturday until 3am Sunday.

Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo's warning is in place from 12pm Saturday until 3am Sunday while warnings for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford will be in place from 1pm until 7pm.

There is also four status yellow weather warnings in place around the rest of the country including snow/ice and rainfall warnings.
