Dublin weather: Status Yellow warning issued as 110kph winds from Storm Jorge set to batter the capital

Dublin is set to be blasted by winds of up to 110kph this weekend as the city braces itself for Storm Jorge.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for the whole of Leinster ahead of the latest storm.

The warning comes into place at 9am on Saturday morning and will remain until 3am on Sunday morning.

The forecaster said strong winds will extend across the country and persist through the rest of the day and into the night. Gusts of between 90 and 110kph are expected.

There will be brief respite before Jorge strikes with the city expected to enjoy a mild day with temperatures in double digits.

Tonight will bring frost and icy patches with lowest temperatures of 0 to 1C.

Friday will be cloudy and wet but there will be dry periods in the afternoon and highs of 10 to 11C.

Next week looks set to remain very cold with temperatures set to plummet below 0C on Sunday night.

The national forecast says Monday will be a cold day with sunny spells and scattered showers, turning wintry at times with highs of just 4 to 7C.
