Dublin weather: Scary 'thunder, wintry falls' promised as Met Eireann have TWO warnings in place for Ireland

Dublin is preparing itself for thunder and wintry falls as Met Eireann has two weather warnings in place in Ireland.

Thursday will be very windy with showers possibly merging into longer spells of rain or hail again this afternoon, with a few wintry falls on higher ground.

There is also a risk of thunder as strong and gusty southwest winds veering westerly will develop and persist into the afternoon.

Temperatures of 8C will drop to zero overnight with shower continuing to develop and becoming isolated as the night goes on.

Fresh and gusty westerly winds will ease as we head into Friday, becoming light to moderate southwest by morning.

Cold by dawn, with temperatures staying around 0 to 3 degrees, with some frost in sheltered spots.

Met Eireann has also issued two weather warnings in Ireland with strong gusts set to take over the country for a time.

A Status Yellow, wind warning is in place for Dublin, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Louth, Wicklow, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Clare from 4am until 6pm this evening.

This means: "Southwest winds veering west to northwest will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 80 to 110km/h.

"Due to a combination of waves, spring tides and surge, the possibility of coastal flooding is increased along western and northwestern coasts on Thursday."

Also, a status orange wind warning is in place for Donegal and Mayo until 12pm today meaning "southwest winds veering west to northwest will reach mean wind speeds of 60 to 75km/h with gusts of 100 to 120km/h, strongest in coastal areas".

Met Eireann added: "Due to a combination of waves, spring tides and surge, the possibility of coastal flooding is increased on Thursday."
