Dublin weather: Rainy evening ahead but tomorrow looks set to be a scorcher in the city

After a warm and fairly dry weekend, rain is forecast to drench the capital as Sunday evening draws in.

The chances are that most people won’t mind, with the entire country seemingly glued to the television hoping Shane Lowry can win his first major golf tournament up in Royal Portrush.

But back to Dublin. Met Eireann expect the city to get a good dousing as the grey clouds move eastwards over the course of the afternoon.

But tomorrow promises to be a belter.

The Glasnevin-based climate gurus mention words like “warm”, “humid' and “sunny”, with the mercury predicted to climb to a sweltering 25C.

Here’s what Met Eireann are forecasting for Dublin for the coming 24 hours:

Sunday evening:

"This afternoon, rain will move eastwards across the region and will continue for the rest of the day. It will be heavy at times.

"Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees with fresh, gusty southerly winds, strong at times along the coast.

Tonight:

The rain will gradually clear northwards overnight. Very mild and humid with patchy hill fog. Temperatures dipping to between 16 and 18 Celsius in moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwest winds. Winds will be strong at times near the coast.

Tomorrow:

Monday will be very warm, humid and mainly dry with bright or sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 24 or 25 degrees with moderate to fresh southwest breezes.

National outlook - midweek

Nationally, the outlook for Tuesday looks pretty nice too, with the State's weather soothsayers saying this is in store for us:

"Tuesday will be mainly dry and will brighten up after a misty start with some sunny spells developing.

"It will become cloudier in the west in the evening. It will continue very warm and humid with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees with moderate southerly breezes, coolest in the south and warmest over the northern half of the country."

However, they add that showers will soon follow and by Wednesday we'll be back to those rainy days we love so much!

So get out and enjoy it while you can Dubliners - and don't forget the sunscreen!
