Dublin weather: Met Eireann warn of thunderstorms, torrential downpours and flooding

Rain, hail and thunder fans - this is your lucky day!

Lovers of hayfever are also in for some fun, with the pollen count set to be high today and tomorrow.

Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow - Rainfall warning for Leinster which is in place until 3am on Friday morning.

It says: "Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur in places during the period.

"While some areas will miss the showers where they do occur there will be some torrential downpours, localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions."

Getting local, the weather experts say Dublin faces thundery downpours today, with maximum temperatures of 16 to 19C forecast for the city.

Tonight promises more of the same, with temperatures dipping to around 10C as "prolonged moderate rainfall with occasional heavy bursts” makes the grass nice and squelchy for the morning.

Tomorrow, you’ll be less than impressed to hear, is looking very similar to today, only less warm. Dublin can expect sone sunny spells on Friday, but it won’t get any warmer than 17C.

Met Eireann’s National Outlook for the next five days isn’t much better - though optimists may point out that there won’t be any need for a hosepipe ban by the time the weekend is done.

In short, this is what Met Eireann say is in store over the weekend:

Friday night: Mostly dry, with minimum temperatrues of 8 to 10C.

Saturday: Rain. Maximum temperatures of 15 to19C.

Saturday night: Rain to clear in most areas. Darkness to fall. TV sets to get switched on. Minimum temperatures of 10-11C.

Sunday: Sunny spells and scattered showers, showers will be most frequent in the north and west. Maximum temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees.

Sunday night: Rain to die off, before rudely returning just in time for the morning.

Monday: Heavy rain to extend from south right across the country.

That’s all Met Eireann have for us for now.

Get out there and enjoy it!
