Dublin weather: Met Eireann warn of drastic change in -32C 'polar air mass' winter update for Ireland

Met Eireann has warned of a drastic change following news that a -32C 'polar air mass' would hit Ireland.

The experts explained that the cold air system would bring unusual conditions at around 5.5km above the surface.

A forecaster said on Tuesday: "A cold polar maritime air-mass lies over Ireland. The chart shows temperatures below -32C at around 5.5km above the surface.

"This freezing cold system above warm seas creates a 'deep convection' that brings turbulent conditions.

But while there will be frost tonight in Dublin, the sub-zero temperatures predicted at the start of the week for throughout the next few days have faded away.

There will be cloud but some sunny spells today with highest temperatures of 10C dropping to 0C and remaining dry tonight with some frost and mist patches.

Here's how the next few days are looking:

Tomorrow : "Mist patches may be slow to clear inland tomorrow morning, but once they do, it will be a dry day for most with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in light to moderate east to southeast breezes."

Summary Headline : "Becoming milder and more unsettled from the south over the weekend and into early next week."

Saturday : "It will be a cloudier day overall, with outbreaks of rain in Munster and south Leinster edging slowly northwards through the day and becoming light and patchy. It will likely hold mostly dry in parts of the north and northwest with the best of any sunny spells there. More persistent rain will move into the south later in the day. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate easterly breezes.

Sunday : "It will be a cloudy day with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle, although drier conditions will develop in some areas through the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate east to southeast breezes."

Early next week : "Current indications suggest generally milder than average but overall unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain continuing to feed up from the south, with the wettest conditions in the south and west."
