Dublin weather: Met Eireann six-day forecast as Donegal postman shares Christmas snow prediction

Met Eireann has shared their six-day, long range weather forecast as well as what's in store for the weekend as famous Donegal postman reveals what's in store for Christmas.

Saturday will be dry with a mix of cloud and sunshine today becoming cloudier in the evening.

Tonight will be cloudy and misty with rain heavy for a time but should clear by morning.

Tomorrow will be mostly dry and cloudy with mist slowly clearing leaving Sunday with a mild afternoon with temperatures of 13 or 14C with rain overnight at 12C.

While famous Donegal postman Michael Gallagher has used his unconventional forecasting methods to make his big Christmas prediction.

On whether the snow will hit on Christmas Day,  he told RSVP Live:  "That's just one day, it's hard to be that exact about it.

"But I know there will be snow, and it will be close to Christmas Day. It will be there or thereabouts."

He added that there will be an East Wind, which is never a good sign.

"Any wind that you get from the east, that's a unhealthy wind and it brings a lot of flus and colds," he went on.

"It's a time when people should keep warm."

Here's how next week is looking according to Met Eireann:

Monday: "Widespread heavy showers and sunny intervals across the country on Monday, with more persistent rain affecting the southeast. Highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees with light to moderate southeasterly winds."

Tuesday: "Mostly dry and sunny on Tuesday morning but cloud will increase in the west during the afternoon, extending across the country by evening and bringing outbreaks of rain to the west and southwest. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees. Light to moderate southerly winds will become fresh to strong in western areas later."

Wednesday: "The heavy rain in the west is expected to move eastwards across the country during Wednesday, clearing to dry and sunny conditions in the southwest. Fresh and gusty southerly winds will veer westerly and ease gradually. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees."

Rest of week: "Dry with sunny spells on Thursday, but turning more unsettled from the night through until the weekend, with spells of rain and potentially strong winds.
